Have you ever seen those images? surely you have, in bigger scale, they are the ditails of a 100 RMB banknote, captured and amplified by i - Gu Changwei in his exhibition.
All of this images are symbols of an inside conflicts between 我 and 我们, the self and otherselves of chinese people, confused and lost between the time of cultural revolution values and the present values of capitalism of post Deng modernization era.
The main topic right now is MONEY, gain it as much as you can. But here it's the source of beautiful detailed flowers and also of black/red shadows in their minds.
There was also a video inside, a story of a young chinese woman who decided to give birth to her son. She was talking about this with two old people, maybe from her family, she was the conflict inside the modern society: how to make her future child happy without money? how to explain him/her the disintegration of society values? how to say to him/her about the bad things in our world? How to find the beauty in life despite the dark in our souls?
Maybe the artist got the point: beauty lies inside hidden ditails we can't see, also in thing we are using/hating/seeking everyday like a 100 yaun banknote. This not means we have to idolize money tho, the answer is right in front of us, we have to discover it!
